Aerie Mock Collection
The Ask
For this project, I was asked to create a mock leisure-wear collection for a brand of my choice. I chose Aerie, American Eagle’s sub-brand that focuses on activewear, loungewear, and intimates.
I had to make an inspiration board and pull key elements and shapes from it to develop original patterns, then design a full collection, incorporating my own designs, patterns I created, and color palette I chose.
I decided the season the collection would be for, and ensured that the season, inspiration, and final designs all aligned cohesively and remained consistent with the aesthetic and values of the chosen brand.
From there, I developed several colorways of my patterns using my custom color palette inspired by the vibrant hues found in Barcelona’s architecture and overall atmosphere.
I decided it would be an interesting juxtaposition to create a Fall/Winter collection inspired by such a warm, vibrant place. This contrast allowed me to infuse the lively, sunny, and colorful essence of Barcelona into a season typically associated with muted tones. The result is a unique and unexpected winter collection that brings expressive, summer-like energy into a traditionally toned-down time of year.
I included delivery dates, wholesale and MSRP pricing, size ranges, and textile details, prioritizing majority-cotton fabric compositions to support sustainability. My goal was to present the information as accurately and comprehensively as possible, reflecting the standards of a professional line sheet intended for buyers.
The Process
I chose Barcelona, Spain as my inspiration location and selected images that highlighted the city’s beauty, fluid organic shapes, and the vibrant mosaics and nature-inspired forms characteristic of Gaudí’s architecture. Barcelona’s iconic architecture and art evokes playfulness, warmth, and creative energy, blending bright color with expressive, flowing design. These emotional and visual qualities provided a strong foundation for developing patterns and shaping a collection with a lively, joyful character.
